Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty in Annapolis by working individually with youth and their families while also addressing the systemic issues leading to poverty and inequities in the first place. Through partnerships and our collaboration with families, we will bring our community together to help youth envision their futures and achieve pathways to independence and career success.
Charting Careers, Inc. is committed to a longitudinal approach that begins with third graders identified as behind in reading and follows them through early adulthood. After graduating from our 3rd though 4th grade individualized tutoring program, Read to Succeed, participants transition into our 5th-7th grade program, Discover Your Story, wherein they identify strengths and explore their own stories and interests. Through participation in these early programs, participants develop supportive relationships with Charting Careers' staff and volunteers who follow and help navigate their path towards graduation. As 8th graders, Charting Careers youth are matched with a mentor and begin our Create Your Story program. Throughout high school, students receive continued academic guidance, life skills workshops, and college and career counseling. These comprehensive programs are designed to help our youth, who face many challenges beyond the classroom, develop a plan for success after graduation and create a pathway out of poverty and towards independence.
