Mission

Charting Careers inspires youth to discover their power and reach their goals through transformative mentoring, life-enriching opportunities, and family partnership and by serving as champions for equity.

Values

While our programs will evolve and our strategies may change, our shared commitment to these values will guide our organizational path:

  • Equity: We believe in building a more just and equitable community by affirming the dignity and worth of each member of our community while recognizing and working to combat the structural forces that have harmed some groups while benefiting others.

  • Relationships: We believe in investing in relationships and building community through connections that are authentic, respectful, and meaningful. Collaborative relationships are built over time with trust, empathy and healthy communication.

  • Assuming the Best: We believe in seeking to understand and assuming the best intentions. This is achieved by compassionate listening and withholding judgment.

  • Integrity: We believe in acting with integrity. We are responsible to ourselves, each other, and our community.

  • Learning: We believe in the importance of continuing to learn, grow, and innovate.

  • Joy: We believe in finding joy and remembering gratitude!

Theory of Change

Charting Careers’ theory of change is based on the social ecological model of health, a research-based model emphasizing the importance of simultaneously addressing individual, family, school and community factors in order to successfully prevent problems and promote strengths. With this framework as its guide, Charting Careers offers educational, mentoring, and group programming to address individual and peer needs, family partnership programming to address risks and assets within the family, partners with schools and the Office of Equity, and co-founded and helps lead The Collaborative Supporting Youth.
