Vision

Charting Careers envisions an Annapolis community where every young person and family has the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to thrive and reach their full potential.

Mission

Charting Careers inspires youth to discover their power and reach their goals through enriching opportunities, transformative mentoring, strong family partnerships, and community collaboration.

Values

While our programs will evolve and our strategies may change, our shared commitment to these values will guide our organizational path:

  • Justice: We believe in fostering a just and welcoming community by honoring the dignity and worth of every individual. We are committed to creating opportunities that allow all members of our community to thrive, while working to address barriers that have historically limited access and advancement for some.

  • Relationships: We believe in investing in relationships and building community through connections that are authentic, respectful, and meaningful. Collaborative relationships are built over time with trust, empathy and healthy communication.

  • Assuming the Best: We believe in seeking to understand and assuming the best intentions. This is achieved by compassionate listening and withholding judgment.

  • Integrity: We believe in acting with integrity. We are responsible to ourselves, each other, and our community.

  • Learning: We believe in the importance of continuing to learn, grow, and innovate.

  • Hope: We believe in finding joy, remembering gratitude, and inspiring hope!

Theory of Change

Supporting the Whole Child

At Charting Careers, we believe in supporting the whole child — in the context of their family, school, and community. We meet each scholar where they are and walk alongside them as they build the skills, confidence, and power to thrive. Our work nurtures wellness, fosters positive relationships, strengthens communities, and empowers young people to create lasting societal change.

This holistic approach is rooted in the social-ecological model of health, a proven framework that emphasizes addressing multiple layers of influence — individual, relational, community, and societal — to build strengths, prevent challenges, and improve overall well-being.

How Our Programs Align with This Model

  • Individual – Through our Learning & Future Readiness programs, we help scholars strengthen academic skills, expand opportunities, and build personal wellness.

  • Relationships – Our Mentoring & Whole-Person Growth and Family Support & Wellness programs foster meaningful connections with trusted adults, peers, and families.

  • Community – Our Community Impact Teams bring together residents, schools, and partners to build strong, supportive neighborhoods where scholars can flourish.

  • Societal – Through Coalition and Collaboration initiatives, we provide opportunities for scholars to develop leadership and advocacy skills that contribute to positive systemic change.
