Tutoring Opportunities at Charting Careers
Elementary Reading Tutor
Charting Careers Elementary Tutors come to our after school program on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 3pm-5pm to work one-on-one or with a small group.
Goals of Tutoring:
Enhance elemenary scholars’ academic and social-emotional growth
Support and encourage scholars to develop a love of learning and reading by providing high-quality literacy instruction and access to engaging and culturally relevant texts
Assist scholars in becoming proficient readers, based on what they each need most
Work collaboratively with parents and other stakeholders to support young children’s literacy and overall development
Tutoring with Middle or High School Scholar
When middle school or high school scholars are struggling in a particular subject area and require support beyond what the school system is able to offer, we work to match them with a one-on-one tutor for their specific area(s) of need. Tutors usually meet with scholars at the public library.
Tutoring Requirements
Be at least 16 years old
Commit to one-year of meeting once a week with a young person
Reside in the commuting area of Annapolis, MD
Be interested in working with young people
Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
Be willing to attend volunteer and tutor training sessions
Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding tutoring activities
Have consistent transportation for tutoring sessions
