Community Youth Coalition (CYC)
The Community Youth Coalition (CYC) is a prevention-focused initiative of Collaborative Supporting Youth ("The Collaborative"), bringing together youth, families, schools, nonprofits, healthcare providers, faith communities, law enforcement, businesses, and public agencies to create a healthier future for young people.
Through a five-year Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant awarded by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Coalition works to strengthen collaboration across Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.
One of only six Maryland communities selected during the 2024 grant cycle, the Coalition mobilizes partners around shared goals of increasing community collaboration, advancing evidence-based prevention strategies, advocating for positive community change, and reducing youth access to alcohol, marijuana, and other substances.
The Coalition meets monthly, with additional workgroups and committees focused on implementing local prevention priorities.
The CYC meets once a month with additional committee meetings. To learn more or get involved, email Virgil Boysaw, Jr. at virgil@chartingcareers.org.

Charting Careers Take Back Your 10 (TB10)
Charting Careers has a local chapter of the Maryland Take Back Your 10 (TB10) initiative. This is a youth-led, adult-guided program aimed at promoting youth voices by educating and making them aware of how the tobacco industry markets in their own neighborhoods. Youth members between the ages of 13-19 actively participate in tobacco prevention activities that build their research and public speaking skills which will contribute to career readiness. They share first-hand perspectives on what drives youths to start smoking, such as mental health and peer pressure and how to shift these attitudes.
Charting Careers youth and staff were excited to attend the 2024 Youth Summit at the University of Maryland, College Park.
