Become an After-School Volunteer with Charting Careers

At Charting Careers, our after-school programs provide a safe, supportive, and enriching space for elementary and middle school youth to grow, learn, and thrive. As an after-school volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in creating that environment—helping students feel cared for, capable, and connected.

Your Role

After-School Volunteers bring energy, consistency, and care to our programs. You may:

  • 📚 Help students with homework, tutoring, and academic skills

  • 🎨 Support enrichment activities like art, STEM, or creative projects

  • 🤝 Build positive relationships with students through conversation and play

  • 🥪 Assist with snacks, program setup, and cleanup

  • 🌟 Serve as a role model and trusted ally for young people

You don’t need special training—just patience, compassion, and a belief in every student’s potential.

Volunteer Requirements

We want you to feel prepared and supported in your role. To volunteer after school, you’ll need to:

  • Be at least 16 years old (21+ preferred)

  • Commit to volunteering at least once per week during after-school program hours (2:30-4:30 Monday and Wednesdsay; or 4:30-6:30 Mondays)

  • Live within commuting distance of Annapolis, MD

  • Complete background and reference checks

  • Follow program guidelines and stay in touch with staff

Why Volunteer After School?

The impact goes both ways—our students flourish with your support, and volunteers gain as much as they give:

  • ✨ Joy in watching young people grow in confidence and skills

  • 🌍 Exposure to new perspectives and experiences

  • 💡 Skill development in leadership, communication, and teamwork

  • 🎉 Connection to a mission-driven community of volunteers and staff
